To build Bright Futures for Fairfax County's at-risk youth one smile at a time.
Bright Futures is a campaign initiated by the Fairfax County Park Foundation to provide 1,000 at-risk kids in Fairfax County with scholarships to summer camp. With the growing threat of gangs recruiting kids as young as six and seven, we must find ways to provide kids with a structured summer program.
The goal of the campaign is to get at-risk kids in grades 1 through 6 off the street for six weeks in the summer of 2005.
Bridging the Gap
While there are a growing number of after school programs in the County, there are very few summer programs for children at-risk. Children with little or nothing to do in the summer will get into trouble. Bright Futures provides a cost effective way to prevent risky behaviors such as using drugs and alcohol, petty crimes, and joining gangs.
