At-Risk Kids Defined (a partial list)
Have experienced abuse or neglect-safety issues Poor language skills
Live in low income homes One or both parents working multiple jobs
Substance abuse in the family Poor communication in the family
Mistrust/disrespect of authority A physical or emotional disability
Absence of one or both parents Retained in school grade level one or more times
Live in court-placed homes Family annual income at or near the poverty line
Involved in the juvenile court system Absence of strong role models
One or more siblings involved in gangs
